Wayne Hudson White, surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully in his home and entered into his heavenly resting place on Monday, February 1, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ivus and Martha Immogene White, and sisters, Kathleen Pilgrim, June Johnson, Barbara Mayo and daughter in law Debbie White.
Wayne, known to most as Pops or Poppa, was born on August 13, 1929 in Octavia, Oklahoma. Pop was a giving and patient man, and was instantly loved and respected by all who encountered him. If you had a need, Pop would see what he could do to help fulfill that need. Pop loved the Lord and when he retired you would often find Pop at his desk daily going over the Bible and writing down its lessons. His Bible is filled with notes and underlined verses that were his favorites.
He married Jessie Mae Salmon on August 26, 1950. They lived quite the adventurous life. Together they have lived in Octavia, Oklahoma, Central Point, Oregon, Grand Prairie, Texas and then their home for over the past twenty years in Fort Worth, Texas. They have traveled across the United States together hunting, fishing and sight-seeing.
Pop was an avid outdoorsman. Over the years, Pop has gone on hundreds of hunting and fishing excursions. If you were able to go on a trip with Pop, you might not always come back with what you went hunting for, but we can guarantee you came back with words of wisdom and advice Pop quietly made a part of the conversation.
He could also often be found fiddling in his shop. Whatever needed to be made, if Pop had the tools, he could make it. He would think about what was needed, draw it out and then make it happen. He often told all of us when working on projects with him “Measure four times, cut once”. There was no cutting corners in projects either. “If you’re going to do something, do it right” he would say.
Poppa leaves a family legacy of faith and love and is survived by wife of 70 years, Jessie Mae White, his children John White and wife Janis, Robert White, Tammie White and partner Janice Barton, Russell White and wife Bonny. Grandchildren, Kory White and wife Yvonne, Kim White, Brandon White and wife Kerri, Brady White and wife Erin, Kevin White and wife Tracy, Jessica White and Justin White. Great-grandchildren Brieanna White, Kaelyn White, Issac White, Blake White. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
To aid in the health and safety of Pop’s wife and others, the family has made a decision to do a memorial video that will be made available in the coming weeks.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in Pop’s name to the Children’s Ministry at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
