Tommy Wayne Thornton, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on August 18, 2021 at the age of 74 years old. Tommy was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Lavona Nell and Wayne Whittaker Thornton and was the oldest of four children. He went to grade school in Carlsbad, New Mexico and then attended high school in Dallas, Texas. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball, golf and hunting. Tommy married Nancy, his high school sweetheart. They were married 56 years and had four daughters together. Tommy began his career in the newspaper business in 1970.
Tommy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a dedicated provider, and a hard worker. He enjoyed sports, watching western movies, and loved having his family around for any occasion. Family was truly everything to him and he loved his family with all his heart. He would never miss a chance to tell or show his family how much he loved them.
Tommy Wayne Thornton was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Thornton; mother, Lavona Fite Furgason; brothers, Harold Ray Thornton and Jimmy Don Thornton; as well as a son-in-law, Brian Johnson. Tommy is survived and will always be remembered by his wife, Nancy Thornton; daughters, Karen Johnson, Traci Gardner and spouse Charles Gardner, Kathy Vinson and spouse Chris Vinson, and Jennifer Clayton; grandchildren, Matt, Nathan, Kevin, Garrett, Tanner, Tyler, Katie and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Landon, and Colt; sister, Carol Cunningham; as well as extended family and dear friends.
