Born into a military family, Sterling was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He has traveled as far as Guam, USA with family. Upon retirement of his father’s Air Force military duties, he settled with family back in the United States. Fort Worth, Texas is where he spent the rest of his life building his legacy. Sterling graduated from Polytechnic Senior High School where he also proudly participated in the academic program ROTC (Reserves Officers Training Corps), with hopes to follow in his father’s military footsteps. Sterling worked as a cook at various nursing homes around the Fort Worth area where he developed his passion and skills of cooking and desired to be a famous chef one day.
After putting in long hours of work, Sterling enjoyed relaxing in the backyard indulging in his favorite pastimes of BBQing, listening to music, and watching western movies while sipping on his favorite beverage. He was a collector of items that had sentimental values to him, big or small, old or new.
Sterling was known by and answered to the nickname Shell, short for Shelton, which is his middle name. He was never married but fathered 3 daughters that he spoke of often and loved them dearly. He loved to entertain whenever possible which you could visibly see in his spirit, mind body and soul. Sterling would do good deeds for others with very little or often no charge at all just to see them happy. These good deeds would give him a sense of accomplishment that would make him happy as he had made someone else happy.
Sterling was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling Shelton Starks Sr. and Dorothy M Starks.
He is survived by his sisters: Cynthia Starks, Marsha Johnson, Lucinda Murchison, and Dorothy Starks; brothers: Rodney Starks and Tavares Starks; daughters: LaDawn Alexander, Briannan Starks, and Keirasten Starks; as well as three grandchildren.
Dear Beloved Brother, you said you were tired and you were ready. Jehovah God heard your cry. It brings us comfort to know you are no longer suffering, rest well until we see each other again. Tell Mom and Dad all about it and we all will reconnect soon and very soon.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. - Revelation 21:4
By the request of our beloved brother, the family will honor his wishes to not host a public viewing and no funeral service will be held. An intimate private service will be for limited immediate family on Saturday, August 13, 2022 to bid their final farewell.
