Robert Edward Leahy, age 86, passed away February 3, 2021 in Fort Worth, TX with the love and comforting presence from family and friends until his last moments. He was born December 29, 1934 in New York, NY to Jeramiah Leahy and Elizabeth Parks Leahy. Bob grew up in Connecticut and attended Air Force Officers Candidate Training in San Antonio Tx in 1955 before he was sent to Lubbock to get his pilots wings. Bob served for 23 years in the USAF where he was the youngest SAC Squadron commander. After retiring from the Air Force in 1977, he enjoyed a second career with USPA / IRA now known as First Command in Ft. Worth, TX. After retiring from First Command he and his wife, Sarah, enjoyed a pleasant retirement in Ft. Worth.
Bob was an active member in Trinity Episcopal Church in Ft. Worth where he and Sarah made many friends. Both Bob and Sarah enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. Bob was an avid American History buff and enjoyed traveling across the United States visiting historically significant sites. Bob, or to those who knew and loved him, Sweet Old Bob or Mr. Two Choices, enjoyed “dad Jokes” no matter how much it made his family roll their eyes. He loved western and WWII movies but nothing mattered more to him than his family.
Robert Edward Leahy is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; children, Robert, Kathleen, Vivian, and Jonathan; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, eleven nieces and nephews, as well as many friends and extended family that he loved and loved him.
A Celebration of Bob’s life will be determined at a future date. He loved volunteering and the family would encourage anyone to donate a day of their time to a cause of their choice in memory of Bob.
Bob believed in telling those he loved that he loved them and hugging those he loved as often as he could. We love you Dad and are grateful for the life we shared and the lessons we learned. We all know the secret to catching fish in a river…
