Mickey Garrett was born August 21, 1948 in Houston, Texas, to parents William Arthur Garrett and Janis Butler. He passed away on October 24, 2023 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was reared in Glen Rose, Texas by his grandmother, Jessie Butler. Mickey loved calling Glen Rose and Somervell County his home. He worked for the Highway Department, Brown and Root at Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant, and the Somervell County Sheriff's Department as a jailer from July 1, 1994, then moved to Peace Officer on August 31, 1995 and loved serving as a Bailiff in the court system during that time. He retired from the Sheriff's Department after 16+ years service on March 3, 2011. He also served as mayor of Glen Rose in 1977, 1979-1983 and was the Municipal Judge from 2012-2023. Mickey volunteered at the Somervell County Museum and had a special love for it. He loved serving his community. He married the love of his life, Candace Sims Allen, April 17, 1987 in Glen Rose, Texas. Their love story was one of mutual respect, shared adventures and enduring love.
Mickey was an exceptional domino player and loved playing with his friends. Traveling to presidential libraries and cemeteries across the U.S. was a favorite pastime. He enjoyed reading about history, cooking and sitting on the back porch with the dogs, Chai and Latte. Mickey and Candace have a blended family of four children; Kendall Garrett, Mica Orton and husband, Andrew, Kelsi Carpenter and husband Bruce, and Aryne Miller and husband Steve. Grandchildren are Brent, Baleigh, Katie, Abbey, Molly, Maureigh and Aiden; Great Grandchild Guillermo. He will be dearly missed by his family
A Celebration of life for Mickey will be held on November 11, 2023 2:00 pm at Grace Community Church (2008 FM 56 North Glen Rose, TX 76043).
