Mark Eswein Obituary

Mark Shepard Eswein, born in East St. Louis, Missouri on December 8, 1950 to Robert Loy Eswein and Jeanne Francis Eswein, passed away on January 10, 2024 at the age of 73.  Mark grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and Hutchison, Kansas with his two brothers and went on to study at Kansas State University.  Always up for a new challenge, Mark embarked on various business opportunities and lived in several different states with his family until he found his knack with a small business called Phone Connection.  At that time, he had moved his family to Georgia and was happy to put down roots there.

Mark was happiest when he was with his family and cheering on his children, and later in life, his son-in-law. He never missed a game or an opportunity to give out his world-famous hugs and equally as famous back pats.  As he put it, “the harder I hit you the more I love you.”  During some of the best years of his life, he spent many weeks with family and friends at their beloved beach house down in Seagrove, Florida.

Mark Eswein was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and uncle.  The world lost a great man but heaven gained an even better one.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Matthew Eswein; and his younger brother, Michael Eswein.  Mark is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Ann Eswein; daughter Kerri and husband Toby Kearney; beloved grandchildren Bronson and Blakely Kearney; older brother Larry and wife Amy Eswein; sister-in-law Barbara Eswein; sister-in-law Kathie and husband Mark Rossback; and so many loved nieces and nephews.

As requested by Mark, there will be no traditional memorial service as he always wanted his family to take his ashes to his favorite beach on 30A and to “make a day of it”. Looks like we’re going to Florida this year.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations in the name of Mark Eswein to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
