Laddie Leroy Zimmet was born on February 13, 1935 in Hubbard, Ohio to parents Gerald J. Zimmet Sr. and Hattie May (Ohl) Zimmet. He passed away on January 14, 2021 at Arlington Memorial Hospital.
Laddie grew up in Warren-Ohio with his brother Gerald Zimmet Jr., and sisters Delphine Houser and Donna Luoma. He attended Vernon High School and afterword became a Cadet in the US Air Force. As one of the few cadets to graduate, he became a skilled pilot, serving with distinction in the Vietnam War and achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He had a great love for flying and a true interest in all things outdoors. He was a patient teacher, leading many of us to catch our first fish, learn to ride a bike, or just skip stones across a river, as well as a beloved father and husband.
He was laid to rest at the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery on March 26, 2021. His life took him around the world, making many friends along the way. An Ohio farm boy turned pilot, he lived by example. He will be greatly missed.
Laddie is preceded in death by his wife, Emily E. Zimmet. He is survived by children Lance E. Zimmet, Cynthia A. Zimmet, Ronald L. Huffstetter and Melisa P. Gangle, as well as many other family members, lifelong friends, and his beloved dog Emmy.
