Joyce Elaine Aker was born to William and Veronica Purcell on December 24, 1948 in Wilmington, Delaware. Joyce grew up in New Castle, Delaware, and moved to St. Louis, Missouri in her 20s. She spent the majority of her adult life in St. Clair, Missouri. She spent her career as the consummate waitress, working for Howard Johnson's, Holiday Inn, and Lewis's Cafe. She loved serving people, always with a smile, always with a kind word of appreciation. She moved back to Delaware for a few years before finally moving to Texas in 2022 to be with her son, Joseph, and his family.
She loved traveling, visiting antique shops, playing bingo, and doing her word searches. She loved spending time with her family. Joyce was an extrovert. She loved people and loved talking to people. She always had a kind word to say. She would always say to people working at stores or serving her, "Thank you for being here." She exhibited the grace and kindness of her Lord Jesus Christ.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband James Aker, granddaughter Kayla Nicole Jones, later life partner, Edward Cain, her brother William, Jr., and sister Carol. She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Abi) and Steven, grandchildren Jacob, Elias, Yesena, Marisa, Allissa (Justin), and Tyler, and three great-granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 26, at 4:30pm, at The Copper Wall, 1137 Burton Hill Rd, Fort Worth, TX 76114.
