Obituary

Jose Castillo was born on January 4th, 1944, in Mercedes, Texas, to Pancho Francisco Gonzales and Juanita Reyes, and passed away on August 9th, 2023, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 79 years old.

Jose up in Weslaco, Texas. He played football for the Weslaco Panthers. His mother died when he was a toddler. He was raised by his grandmother. He served 6 months of active duty in the Army National Guard, from March to August of 1961. Then thereafter, he served seven-and-a-half years in the Texas National Guard as a reservist. Jose was called to active duty in October of 1962, during the Cuban Missle Crisis. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Jose married Beatrice Singelterry in 1963. His son, Jo'se Romel, was born in 1964, and his son, Jaime Roel, was born in 1965, whereafter they also a daughter, Corina Daneen in 1966. In the late 60s, he moved to Grand Prairie, Texas, to work at LTV in the aircraft industry. He was a welder by trade. He then moved to Madison, Wisconsin, in 1970, and worked at Dairy Equipment Co. Jose built a split-level home himself, with the help of his wife and small children, in 1973. In 1977 he moved back to Grand Prairie. Jose divorced in 1978, and thereafter worked for Boeing in Seattle, Washington, and then moved to Madison, where he resided until the mid-1980s. After this move, he then moved back to Fort Worth, Texas, and worked for Lockheed Martin until he retired in 2012.

Jose loved animals, especially dogs. He also loved fixing things himself.

Jose grew up in the most impoverished family, in the most impoverished part of Weslaco, Texas. This gave him a rough childhood and he had an abrasive personality. Despite all of his disadvantages, he was honest, hardworking and law-abiding. Jose was a good provider.

Jose is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Beatrice Castillo Equinones; his father, Francisco Gonzalez'; and his mother, Jaunita Reyes.

Jose is survived by his children, Jo’se Romel Castillo, Jaime Roel Castillo, and Corina Deneen Rodriguez; grandchildren, Savannah Essannette Castillo, Bradley Ian Castillo, Nikia Daneen Abarca, Jovan Javier Castillo, Robert Cory Rodriguez, Iliana Deneen Rodriguez, and Samuel Robert Rodriguez.

Our father requested to not have a service, but to have a very simple cremation.

And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.””
