John Farnsworth passed away unexpectedly but peacefully this week at his home in Carrollton, Texas. John was born on November 7th, 1946. He is survived by a sister and niece.
John followed in his father's footsteps with a stint in the Air Force, after which he worked for Texas Instruments for twenty years. During his latter years at TI, he built and maintained racecars for Dallas residents and fellow TI workers, Jim Hall, Keith Krop, and David Schaller. In one of John's race cars, David Schaller drove to an SCCA National Championship at Road Atlanta.
John opted for an early retirement from TI to spend the rest of his career in racing. John established Dal-Tec Racing, and managed the factory backed Championship winning Nissan team in World Challenge, an SCCA professional road racing series. His drivers included John Schneider, Jim Ray, David Schaller, Elliot Forbes Robinson, and Alan Sevadjian.
After his years with Nissan, John joined Alan and Edward Sevadjian at Duntov Motor Company where, under a license from General Motors, he helped build the iconic Corvette Grand Sport, while leading the team to 7 SVRA National Championships. John retired from Duntov with the onset of the Covid pandemic in 2020.
John's other passion was a life-long commitment to his own education. He was a voracious reader of non-fiction, and often encouraged his close friends with enthusiastic book reviews and reading lists of his latest half-dozen titles.
John will be sorely missed by his many friends in the SCCA, as well as co-workers that were blessed by his steady leadership, his loyalty, and his vast knowledge he was always ready to share.
