John (Johnny) W. Echols was born on December 15, 1939. He went home to Jesus on December 9, 2020, at the ripe young age of 80 – just one week away from his 81st birthday.
John was an easy going character. He enjoyed listening to almost all genres of music… He was also blessed with the gift of playing instruments, including acoustic and electric guitar, piano and keyboard - all self-taught… and he wrote several songs, Christian and Country. He enjoyed reading and watching Robert Morris, Andrew Womack, and old Adrian Rogers ministry programs. He was a great fan of crooner John Gary, actors James Dean and John Wayne, the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, old car photos and occasionally coin collecting. John was a long-time member of Gospel Lighthouse Church in Oak Cliff. His favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6 and favorite hymn was Amazing Grace.
Besides Lori, his beloved wife of 37 years, John is survived by his son Jeff, daughter-in-law Brenda, their children, Glenn, Chris, Kristen, Tiffany and Amanda, grandchildren, elder brother Derl and wife Joyce, elder sister, Ava, younger sister, Linda, her husband Charles, in-laws and extended family.
John was born in Memphis, TN and was raised in McRae, AR. He spent most of his life, however, in the great big city of Dallas, then the ever-growing city of Cedar Hill, TX. John worked in a array of positions, including sales, Warehouse/Production Manager for a wire and cable company, where he and Lori met. John retired as an Electronics Technician from a local aerospace company.
