John Hampton Covington II (Johnny) was born on July 25, 1967 in Greensboro, NC. He passed away on January 31, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 53.
He grew up Greensboro where he was raised by his mother Barbara Covington until she married Larry Cox. When he was 15 he became a big brother to Justin Cox. He graduated from Grimsley High School, took some business courses at GTCC, but mostly excelled at the school of LIFE.
John loved swimming, scuba diving, surfing, anything that had to do with the ocean. He loved telling jokes, dad jokes, anything that would make a person smile. He enjoyed talking to anyone at any time. He would do anything for anyone if he was able to help make their day better.
He loved going to church. He really enjoyed serving his Lord and caring for the youth at his home church, Grace Family Church in Lutz, FL which is where he met his wife, Joyce and her daughter Heather-Ann.
After 4 years of dating John and Joyce got married and one year later he adopted Heather as his own daughter. You would never know he had not been there from the beginning the way he loved and cared for her. John and Joyce had just celebrated 13 years of marriage this past October.
John was a very loyal and faithful husband and father. Kind and thoughtful son. Dutiful brother. Fun and dependable friend.
John is survived by his wife Joyce; daughter Heather; mother Barbara Cox; father Larry Cox; brother Justin Cox, Justin’s wife Stephanie; nephew Caleb and his aunt Lynn Berrier.
There will be a memorial service March 20, 2021 at Capp Smith Park, 5800 Robin Drive, Watauga, TX 76148. 1:00pm. Brett Parks will be officiating.

At lastly, every time you hear a bad dad joke you will think of John and laugh, remembering how he always botched telling it.
