Jimmie Carolyn Keeley, of Weatherford, departed this life on September 19, 2022 at Medical City Weatherford, at the age of 87.
Fondly known as “Dimples” to her family, she was born December 28, 1934 in Elaine, Arkansas. She, along with her two younger brothers, attended school in Ravenden Springs, Arkansas.
At the age of 16, she married her first husband, Dorris W. Stevens. Together, they had four daughters. He was a career US Air Force service member, and for the next twenty years, the family relocated all over the United States. During those years, she worked as a carhop, a waitress, a bookkeeper, and as an office manager. In 1974, she met and married her second husband, William C. Keeley. He was also a career service member with the US Navy. Shortly afterwards, she began purchasing “fixer-upper” rental properties. She learned to work on the houses and complete most of the projects herself. She greatly enjoyed the work and found this endeavor to be both enjoyable and lucrative. Other than an earlier Air Force relocation, she remained in California from 1966 to 1989.
She sold her properties in 1989, and due to health problems, she and her husband left California and relocated to Mineral Wells, Texas. There, she continued acquiring and refurbishing rental properties. In later years, with the death of her husband and her declining health, she came to live with her daughter in Mineral Wells. For the past several years, after the death of her son-in-law, she has resided in Weatherford along with her daughter and grandchildren.
Carolyn was born during the Great Depression in the Mississippi Delta of Arkansas. Times were extremely difficult, with the economy relying almost solely on timber or tenant farming. The floods of 1927 and again in 1937, and plunging crop prices, left families exacerbated and in dire straits. Carolyn was the oldest child of Monila Linville. With conditions as they were, she was raised by her mother and her grandmother, Mae Williams Linville. With the fact that her birth father was never a part of her life, she assumed the surname of her stepfather, Grover Lamb. Carolyn attributed the conditions of her early life as having a big effect on her determination to strive for a better life for her and her children, to take charge of her well being, and to rely on her own ability to maintain control of the outcome.
Carolyn loved to laugh, dance and play with her children and siblings. She greatly enjoyed music (Elvis) and was an avid reader. She took a great deal of pride in working on her own projects and seeing the results of her efforts. She was a charitable and giving individual. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her mother, Monila Lunsford, grandmother, Mae Linville, two stepfathers, Grover Lamb and Allison Lunsford, and her two husbands, Dorris Stevens and William Keeley, Carolyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Susie Stevens Henriques; two brothers, Tommie Hall and Jimmy Lunsford; and son-in-law, Curtis Cornell.
Those who remain to cherish her memory include three daughters, Carole Nunes (Bert) of Atwater, CA, Anita Danieli of Chowchilla, CA, Stephanie Cornell of Weatherford, TX; one son, John Keeley (Lea) of El Cajon, CA; two sisters, Deb Lunsford Yates (Wayne) of Cherry Valley, AR, Jude Lunsford (Jack Thorn) of Jonesboro, AR; three brothers, Cleve Lamb (Maudie) of Modesto, CA, Danny Lunsford of Earle AR, Johnny Lunsford of Harrisburg, AR; son-in-law, Joe Henriques of Atwater, CA; sister-in-law, Sharon Hall of Spokane, WA; 11 grandchildren, Jenna Nunes, Jillian Henriques, Kerri Gonzales, Tracey Kelton-Kong, Richard Danieli, Preston Danieli, Ashton Danieli, Megan Richards, Zachary Hamlin, Curt Dean Cornell, Conager Cornell; and 11 great grandchildren. Carolyn also leaves behind a beloved nephew, Toby Soares of Merced, CA. who was always there for her. In addition, two very special friends; Pat Senaratne of Weatherford, TX and Sherry Largent of Needles, CA, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Medical City Weatherford for their kindness and concern during the passing of their loved one.
The family requests that any memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
A special memorial service will be held at a later date.
Psalm 103: 1-4 NLT
“Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise His holy name. Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things He does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The LORD gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly. He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel. The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.”
