Jimmie Jack Hendrix, 79 years old, of Dallas, TX, was taken home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
Jim was born on November 20, 1942 in Barnsdall, Oklahoma to Jack and Nova Hendrix. He was raised in Borger, Texas where he graduated from high school. He attended the University of North Texas where he received his bachelor's degree in Marketing. It was from there he met his wife and partner in life for over 58 years, Dorothy McDougal Hendrix. After their marriage in 1963, Jim worked for Fischbach & Moore where he received an assignment to work in Vietnam. After this experience he briefly worked for Timex until deciding to leave the business world behind for something much more fulfilling to him and became a fireman and paramedic for the Dallas Fire Department.
During his career as a fireman, he received a Medal of Valor for bravery. Among his belongings, a letter was found from a young parent thanking him for saving the lives of their children. These are things he would never talk about. He was a quiet, modest man who wanted no thanks or attention for doing what he thought was right. He remained with the fire department until his retirement in 2003.
As hobbies Jim was always interested in health and wellness. He always tried to exercise every day, and was very knowledgeable about vitamins and eating healthy, natural foods. Other interests included the stock market, politics, and fixing anything mechanical or electrical because there was nothing he couldn’t fix himself. In his retirement he enjoyed many years of travel with his wife to faraway places. Most special to him were the trips he took to Israel. But the most important pastime of his life was always reading the Bible and following religious programs on tv and radio. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was always eager to learn from the Bible and share that message with others.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Nova Hendrix.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy McDougal Hendrix; his 3 daughters, Kim Allred, Laura Foster, and Heather Chatriand; grandchildren Brandon, Jordon, Alison, Jenna, Jameson, and Thomas; and great grandchildren, Noah, Charley, and Henry.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church, Truett Chapel.
