Jessie Mae White, left her earthly home for her heavenly one on Saturday, February 13, 2021.
We know she received the most joyous welcome at the Pearly Gates by those who preceded her in death, her husband Wayne Hudson White, mother Ethel Salmon, sister, Wilma Dean Rosiere and daughter in law Debbie White.
Jessie was born on April 30, 1934 in Muse, Oklahoma. Jessie was one of those ‘Salmon Girls’, so that meant when you were around her, you were in for a good time! Whether you were with her on one of her many adventures or just sitting around in the living room, conversation with Jessie always included laughter.
She married her husband of over 70 years, Wayne Hudson White on August 26, 1950. As in life, and so in death there are very few things that Wayne and Jessie didn’t do together. Wayne passed away on February 1, 2021 and Jessie followed 12 days later. If you were around them for any length of time, you can probably still hear her calling out to him “Wayne!” The tone depended upon whether she was hollering at him to wait, to come here, or in exasperation because there was nothing Pop loved more than getting her riled up.
Jessie was always creating something. Early in her life she learned to quilt, crochet, knit, and mend. You name it, she could do it. She was a proud member of several quilting clubs and looked forward to their annual retreats. She loved making quilts for herself and others and when you visited with her, it typically included a trip to her quilt room to take a look at the latest project she was tackling.
She also loved to feed her family. Her family regularly requested her fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, chicken soup, Indian tacos, chocolate gravy, and a plethora of other homemade meals. By far the most frequent and fought over, especially by her children, was her apple pie. If it was comfort food, Jessie could make it and didn’t need a recipe for it! One year, and this was when they were grown and most with families of their own, she made each of her children their own apple pie so they wouldn’t fight over it. Didn’t work! They still fussed over which crust looked like it was better, which one was just a bit bigger than the others, and overall just made a big to-do over them. Jessie got on to all of them for fussing, but we all knew she loved that her kids wanted something she made that bad.
Jessie is survived by her family, sister Jo Russell and husband Jayn Russell, children John White and wife Janis, Robert White, Tammie White and partner Janice Barton, Russell White and wife Bonny. Grandchildren, Kory White and wife Yvonne, Kim White, Brandon White and wife Kerri, Brady White and wife Erin, Kevin White and wife Tracy, Jessica White and Justin White. Great-grand children Brieanna White, Kaelyn White, Issac White, Blake White. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Due to many circumstances, the family has decided to not hold a memorial service and will be combining Wayne and Jessie’s Memorial Video that will be made available in the coming weeks.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in Jessie’s name to the Children’s Ministry at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
