Gregory Nelson Obituary

Gregory Allan Nelson was born on July 31st, 1949 in Lakewood, Ohio to Nancy Agy and Roger Milton Nelson and passed away on January 27th, 2024 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 74. 

Gregory was born in Lakewood Ohio, and he grew up in Shelby Ohio and graduated from Shelby Senior High School in 1967. He served in Navy and was a Vietnam war veteran who served on reconnaissance flights spotting submarines off the coast of Viet Nam.  After the war, he graduated from Ohio State University with an undergraduate degree and graduated from Ohio University with an MBA.  He worked in the trucking industry for many years, training drivers and driving as well.  He moved to Georgia and then various southern states and finally lived in Texas for a number of years.  He loved the south very much.  He passed very peacefully in hospice in Arlington Texas with his much loved step son Ronnie Barr with him, after being very ill with heart disease and COPD for two years. Ronnie was very helpful and kind to Greg for over 30 years and took especially loving care of Greg during his final illness and death.

Greg was an avid reader, particularly military history and military generals' biographies.

He had a wonderful sense of humor, and adored his wife Amanda and cared for her during her final illness.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents; Roger M. Nelson and Nancy Nelson and great niece; Remi Goodall and his beloved wife of over 32 years Amanda Nelson.

He is survived by his step son; Ronnie Barr and his sister, sister; Halley Whitely and her husband Glenn Whitely, and nephew; Jim McKinney II and wife Tammy, nieces; Jodi Seals and husband Tony Seals and Jessica Maistros and husband Michael Maistros.  Also many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider making a donation to any veteran charity or organization or any heart health charity or organization.

Greg's remains will be placed at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery located at 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
