Edith Alberta Smith, of Fort Worth, Texas, went to be with the Lord on April 1, 2021 at the age of 92 years. Edith was born in Ottawa, Illinois to David Hall and Ruth Kilburn on February 11, 1929. Edith was a WWII “ Rosie the Riveter” with no limits to what she could do when she set her mind to something. She worked in factories, on the farm, was a short order cook (and made the best burgers), a phenomenal mother to 8 children, loved entertaining company, a homemaker, and a believer in Christ. Always friendly and outgoing. Edith sang in her church choir at Shady chapel church and played the Ukulele.
Edith will be remembered most as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed dressing up, admiring wildlife, Christmas decorations, movie and popcorn nights, and volunteering her time to help others in need.
Edith Alberta Smith is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her late husband, James Shipley who passed in 1990, and children, James “Jimmy” Shipley, David “Dave” Shipley, as well as Robert “Bobby” Shipley. Edith is survived by her husband of 27 years, Kevin Roy Smith, her children, Ruth Vermeersch, Susan “Sue” Herfel, Deborah Wendricks, Michael Shipley, and LeRoy Shipley; her sister, Jean Reeves, her brother, Richard Hall, many grandchildren and great grand children and dear friends.
