Donald Lee Mathis, beloved husband, father and Paw Paw, went to be with his Lord and Savior on the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Acton United Methodist Church, Granbury. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, a donation to Acton United Methodist Church, Pecan Plantation EMS or charity of your choice . Don was born Oct. 15, 1932, in Dallas to Bessie and Adon Joseph Mathis. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School and then attended North Texas State University in Denton earning a B.A. in business administration. After graduation, Don married Gwen Arp Dec. 4, 1960. Together, they raised two boys. Don had an exciting 32-year career with Lone Star Industries as a regional sales manager in Dallas, Houston and Tulsa. He retired in 1999 in the small community of Pecan Plantation in Granbury. Don enjoyed playing golf, fishing and hunting; but, most of all, he loved being with his grandchildren. Survivors: His loving wife, Gwen, of 54 years; his sister, Marie Sutton of The Colony; his cousin, Bob Maxey and wife, Shirley, of Fort Worth; son, Gregory Don and wife, Andrea, and their children, Cullen and Ava of LaGrange; and son, David Scott and wife, Shannon, and their children, Ryan and Rex of Montgomery.
