Danny Rawls Obituary

My beloved has slipped the surly bonds of earth and touched the face of God.

Danny Clark Rawls was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on November 10, 1954 to Mary Josephine (Steward) and Dan Quincy Rawls and peacefully passed while surrounded by his wife of 44 years, Kathy, and their children on Monday, December 21st.    It is quite likely that his birth on an Air Force base, where his dad was stationed, inspired his lifelong passion for aviation and all things space related.  Upon graduation from Trinity High School in Euless, Texas in 1973 Danny joined the family business, as a catering truck driver, when his dad handed him the keys to his best truck and assigned him the best route available. Later, realizing his son’s true passion was aviation, Danny’s dad encouraged him and financed his private pilot training.  While catering, Danny began night school to get his Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license and subsequently joined Delta Air Lines in 1988, as a Mechanics Helper.  His career with Delta as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician spanned 24 years, until his retirement in 2012.  Working for Delta afforded Danny and his family the opportunity to travel and see many places across this great USA and abroad. Upon his retirement he spent many hours at Lake Fork in beautiful East Texas, and he and Kathy moved there full time when Kathy retired in 2018.  Danny loved to fish, tend to his roses and watch the deer from the Rawls Lil’ Spot on the shores of Lake Fork.

Danny was involved with Boy Scouts of America for most of his life, as a young scout he attended the 1969 National Jamboree in Idaho, where he watched the Apollo 11 Moon Landing along with thousands of other scouts on a special feed.  As an adult leader, he helped many scouts on their path to Eagle, including his two sons and several nephews.  He organized and oversaw several high adventure trips to the Northern Tier Canoe Base on the Boundry Waters, Colorado camps and more. He earned his Woodbadge as a member of the BobWhite troop and was presented with the Bob Frazier MOVO Award for his tireless contributions to scouting. Danny was also a lover of the arts and played some awesome “trash” sax!!! He loved seeing his daughter’s vocal performances throughout Jr High, High School and College and was always waiting in the wings when she came off the stage!!

Loved by everyone who had the privilege to know him, Danny was funny, loved practical jokes and could do a mean Born to be Wild karaoke. He loved live music, the UT Texas Longhorns, Dallas Stars Hockey, Lone Star beer and most of all, his family. His grands adored him and his “PawPaw pancakes”; his deep and abiding love for his family was always evident.

Left to cherish the most amazing memories are his wife and soulmate Kathy Rawls, his children and their spouses Krystal & Bobby Bybee, Daniel & Mandy Rawls and Joshua & Mako Rawls; his precious grandchildren Emilee Bybee, Erin Bybee, Hannah Morris, Ella Rawls, Kaitlyn Morris, Ava Rawls and Jasper Rawls. He was loved and looked up to by his younger siblings and their spouses Joey & Vicky Rawls, Dave & Michelle Rawls, Sherry & Jeff McGilvray and Audrey & Andy Avera as well as his much-loved bonus mom Bess Rawls. Also mourning his passing are his favorite Aunt Punchy and Uncle Johnny and many special in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, December 29th, at Saginaw church of Christ. CDC guidelines will be followed. The service will be live streamed for those who are not able to attend. A gathering of family and friends will follow at Angelo’s BBQ on White Settlement Road in Fort Worth.
