Charles Holmes Jr Obituary

Charles Holmes Jr., 65, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away May 7th, 2022, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Charles was born on August 19, 1956, to Charlie and Rosa Holmes in Houston, TX. Charles graduated from John Kennedy High School in Denver, CO where he excelled in sports; both football and track-field. After high school Charles briefly attended College in Lake Charles, LA on a track-field scholarship. However, Charles later decided to join the Military in 1976: first the Marines and later the Navy. In 1983 while stationed at the US Naval Station in Norfolk, VA. he met Gay, and they married on June 16, 1984.

Charles and Gay lived in Europe for six years and were stationed at US Naval Base-Rota, Spain; Charles also served aboard the USS Belknap (Flagship) docked in Gaeta, Italy. Living in Europe allowed them both to travel extensively to the neighboring countries where they embraced the different foods and customs they grew to love! Charles earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems while still in the Navy. He retired from the Military in 1996 after serving 20 years. Charles later earned a Masters' Degree in Management E-Commerce. He continued a long and successful career in the field of IT/Communications. Hobbies were something Charles had many of, including participating in local gun clubs, political clubs to volunteering and donating to local food banks. He loved giving back to the community. Charles always had his hands on the newest and latest technology-gadgets. After a long hard day of working in the yard, he looked forward to a nice cold beer. Charles had an eclectic style, it showed through the art pieces he collected, types of clothing and the diverse genres of music he listened to.

Junior had many vocations in his lifetime. As a teenager, during summer vacation Charles spent time working on a horse ranch as a wrangler and a tour guide taking visitors on horseback rides through the scenic trails of Colorado! Charles was a "True" Cowboy, and it was an absolute pleasure seeing him horseback riding, it was truly his passion. Junior Loved Life and all his Family! He was always positive; had a natural ability of uplifting and empowering those who seek encouragement and guidance.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents: Rosa Holmes and Charlie Holmes. Sisters: Mary Thomas and Debra Holmes, Brothers: Lawrence Thomas and Donald Ray Thomas.

Charles is survived by his wife Gay of 37 years and Two Children: Chambers (Patricia) Holmes of Chesapeake, VA, Cassia (Daniel) Gardner of Arlington, TX and Grandchildren: Skyler Holmes and Kylie Holmes, Sisters: Audrey Holmes of Denver, CO, Donna Holmes of Houston, TX. Brother: Lawrence "Sonny" Thomas of Houston, TX, Loving Aunts: Lillie Westbrook and Lucille Coleman, Uncle: Marvin Wade of TX, Sister-in-laws: Jessie Spruill of Citrus Heights, CA, Ella Mae Mercer, Norfolk, VA, Joann Harris of Conyers, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family/friends! He is survived by a dear best friend Anthony Williams of Powder Springs, GA; they flew missions (Air Crewman) together while stationed in Rota, Spain.

Memorial Dinner – A Celebration of Life Will be Scheduled at a Later Date – in the Summer of 2022

"In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a memorial donation to: St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital".

John 14:13 Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am!
