Carolyn Ayres Obituary

Carolyn Sue Ayres was born on October 14th, 1949 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Violet Loretta Martin and Hurley Edward Skiles, and passed away on October 18th, 2023 at the age of 74.

Her fondest childhood and young adult life memories were spent with her close friends and family in the Madill, Oklahoma area.  She met and married James A. Ayres of Madill, Oklahoma and together with their daughter Suzie they moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1972. There she resumed her cosmetology career.  From then on she would continue this career to provide for her family for 50 plus years.  In 1978 the family moved to Fort Worth, Texas and purchased a home in North Richland Hills where their study was transformed into Mom's beauty shop. The shop was a revolving door for 45 plus years of close friends from North Richland Hills Baptist church and her surrounding community.  In March of 1980 they welcomed their second daughter Amanda. Mom's beauty shop provided for the family so that she could stay at home with the girls and work.  She remained there still continuing to do hair even just a couple of months before her cancer returned.

Mom was an avid runner and this was a great feat for her.  As a child she had an inoperable heart defect.  She was told by Doctors that she would not live to her 30's much less have two children and survive.  At the age of 20, a new medical procedure gave her the chance to live a long life doing whatever she physically wanted.  With this new found clean bill of health she traveled all over the world.  She swam with the dolphins, Zip-lined, went on Windjammer Cruises and traveled to Israel.  She was most proud of her accomplishments in the running world.  She ran marathons and relays and competed in many 5K’s and 10K’s. One of her favorite annual races was The Ruel Little Classic at the Sand Bass festival in Madill, Oklahoma.

She enjoyed spending time with her girls, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed decorating and entertaining for the holidays, having the grandkids over for slumber parties and spending time with friends.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Hurley Edward Skiles, Mother Violet Loretta Skiles, Brother Francis Edward Skiles aka Brush, beloved Niece Christy Carol Daube and Brother in Law Devyrle Ingle.

The girls’ Father James Allen Ayres passed away on July 14, 2021 after a courageous fight with cancer.

Carolyn is survived by Daughters Suzie Ayres and Amanda Fisher, Grandchildren Todd Gore Jr. and wife Lauren,  Timothy Gore and wife Trinity Vaughn Gore, Trinity Jones, Jack Fisher, Landon Drummond,  Great grandchildren Ashton and Archer Gore, Sisters, Cynthia Glenn, Linda Ingle and Brother James Skiles.
