Camilla Roberts King, 81, passed away on October 14, 2023, in Arlington, Texas. She was born May 29, 1942, in the small West Texas town of Loraine. Camilla was known for her grace and charm, which brought immeasurable joy to the lives of her family and dear friends throughout her lifetime.
The West Texas beauty queen and twirler was known for her impeccable taste and lifestyle. These attributes and talents took her to McMurray University in Abilene, Texas where she served as an officer in her sorority.
Camilla's heart was dedicated to her family, and she cherished every moment spent with her friends. Her remarkable talent for holiday decorating was only surpassed by her unique knack for organizing and hosting unforgettable gatherings. Her enthusiasm was infectious, leaving all fortunate enough to know her touched by her radiant spirit.
She became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie in 1969, where she sang in the choir and served on numerous committees over the years. Camilla worked at Jefferson Junior High School and at Century 21 in Grand Prairie. She later became Vice-President for Independent American where she used her talents to organize and host galas and soirees in the area and finally retired from Trans Union. Camilla was a founder of the Grand Prairie High School Cheerleader Booster Club, a graduate of Leadership Grand Prairie, and an active member of The Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce and many other organizations.
Camilla is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ruby Roberts, her brother Tom (Jerry) Roberts, and her sister Karleen Roberts. She is survived by her children; Michael Martin King and Whitney Leigh Smith and her husband, Thomas, her beloved grandchildren; Davis and Mason Chapman and Presley and Reece King, nieces and nephews and her dear sister-in-law Cass Cochran of New Jersey.
Friends and family will gather to remember and celebrate Camilla's life on November 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Grand Prairie. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Camilla's honor to Children First of Grand Prairie, Isaiah 117 House (Dallas County), or Lifeline for Families in Grand Prairie, which are all organizations that were close to her heart.
Although she is no longer with us, Camilla's spirit and the love she shared will forever remain in our hearts. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who knew her.
