Brian Elbow Obituary

Brian Francis Elbow passed away at his home on Jan. 11, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 66.

Brian was born June 25, 1957, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Paul and Joan (Clayton) Elbow. In quick succession the family moved to Escanaba, Michigan; Gladstone, Michigan; and Bloomington, Illinois.

Brian spent most of his formative years in Hampton, Illinois, where he attended elementary school, and Springfield, Illinois, where he attended Grant Middle School and Springfield High School.  Brian excelled academically but left high school during his junior year.

He left home for Michigan, where he did factory work in the auto industry for about a year before returning home. He then worked several jobs before joining the Air Force in 1979.  Brian served as a cable installation and maintenance specialist while stationed at Lindsey Air Force Station, Wiesbaden, Germany.

Brian left the Air Force in 1980, and from 1981 to 2009 he worked in the cable television industry in Springfield, Illinois, earning a number of certificates and awards.

In 1991 he married Kelly Miller and lived in Pawnee, Illinois, with Kelly’s daughter from a previous marriage, Vanessa. In 1992 they had a son, Dalton Jeremiah Elbow.  In 2004 Brian and Kelly divorced.

In 2009 Brian was forced to leave his job when his position with Comcast had become obsolete. In 2011 he moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he worked briefly as a cable installer. He also worked at the Fort Worth Food Bank and at Goodwill Industries in Fort Worth.

Brian will be remembered for his fierce work ethic, his absurd sense of humor, his love of fishing and his earnest attempts to succeed in the face of what eventually became insurmountable mental and physical challenges.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Joan Elbow, and his brother, Mark Elbow.

He is survived by siblings David (Linda) Elbow, Anchorage, Alaska; Valerie (Bruce) Johnston, San Antonio, Texas; Kent Elbow, Madison, Wisconsin; Mary Kate Elbow, Madison, Wisconsin;  Steven (Heather Green) Elbow, Madison, Wisconsin; his son Dalton and three grandchildren, Springfield, Illinois; his former wife, Kelly Miller, Winchester, Illinois; former sister-in-law Ann Shook, Phoenix, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
