Bonnie Dowdy Obituary

It’s with a heavy heart, we deliver the announcement that Bonnie Dale (Johnson) Dowdy passed away on
June 20th, 2022. Bonnie was born on July 12th, 1938, in Hico, Texas. She graduated from Hico High School in
1957 with the awards and achievements of: All School Favorite, Class Favorite, Basketball Captain and
All District Guard.

She married James Dowdy of Clairette, Texas, on February 8th, 1957. They had 2 children, Acanthia and
Aaron, and lived in Arlington, Texas. Bonnie started her career at UTA in 1966 as a key punch operator
and over the years was promoted to Manager, User Services. In 1986 she received ‘Employee of the Year’
award and she was very proud of this accomplishment. During her lifetime she became a very talented
artist, loved to paint, and decorate for all seasons, although Halloween and Christmas were her
favorites.

She retired from UTA at the age of 55 and was ready to live life to the fullest. She met and fell in love
with Dave E. Bloxom Sr. and they traveled all over the world. Her favorite places were Africa and Ireland.
She adored her grandchildren Ryan, Taylor, Bailey and Peyton. They loved going to her houses, taking
trips, and playing games. She made lifelong friends in every part of her life whether that was classmates,
co-workers, pokeno ladies and her travel and supper club groups.

After Dave’s passing, she started managing the Property Management Division for the Dave E. Bloxom
Foundation. This grew to be her next career until she turned 81. She had great relationships with the
tenants, always repairing the building to ensure that everyone had a safe place to work. She even
became very close friends with all the contractors. In 2016, the Bloxom foundation board members
elected to honor her with a yearly scholarship in her name to support a student at UTA. She continued
to serve on the board as President until her passing and took her position very seriously with great pride
and privilege.

She was very generous, considerate, warm hearted, and gracious. She was the life of the party and
always made everyone feel special. On the flip side, she loved to play jokes on everyone and no one was
off limits. This is how she lived her life!

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Acanthia Norman and son Aaron Dowdy, son-in-law Doug Norman,
grandchildren, Bailey and Peyton Norman, Ryan and Taylor Dowdy, and sibling, Tommy Johnson.

She lived, she loved and was loved.
