Betty L. Rutledge (Withers) passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long and loving life. Betty was born and raised in Kansas City, where she attended Kensington Avenue Baptist Church and graduated from East High School.
Betty worked at the Kansas City School of Osteopathic Medicine after graduation, where she met Gerald D. Rutledge, a medical student from Michigan. They moved to Michigan after his graduation, and raised their daughter Karen Walker (Rutledge) and son Doug Rutledge in Augusta, Michigan. Betty's heart never left Missouri, however, and she returned to Kansas City in 1992.
Betty enjoyed keeping in touch with her East High classmates, and attended many a class reunion. She loved her Kansas City Chiefs, collecting dolls, all things Betty Boop and the many works of Thomas Kinkade. In Later life, she traveled to Bangkok Thailand to see her son and his family, and fulfilled her dream to see England and Wales.
Betty will be laid to rest on April 22, 2022 at 12p, next to her parents Ollie and Violet Withers at Forest Hills & Calvary Cemetery, 6901 Troost Ave, Kansas City.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jim H Withers of Raytown.
Betty leaves her daughter, Karen (Rutledge) Walker; a son, Doug Rutledge; her niece, Melanie Ebel; her nephew, Clay Withers; a granddaughter, Nicole Cook; and grandsons, Philip Fender, Trevor Rutledge, Kyle Rutledge and Connor Rutledge.
"Life is one continuous journey, any good that I can do, let me do it now for I shall not pass this way again"
