Lorena Burness Hornberger, lovingly known as Grandmother & Meme, passed away at her home in Granbury, Texas on February 9th 2019 at the age of 99 years young. Lorena was born October 4th, 1919 in Marlow, Oklahoma to Tom and Pearl Ledford.
Lorena had ten siblings, seven brothers and three sisters. She was a loving and supportive wife to Charles Hornberger of 33 years and was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
As a testament to Lorenas' zest for life, she served her country by working as a Riveter in a California Shipping yard during World War II. She always had a welcoming smile and was encouraging to all with her light hearted loving personality. Never complaining and always choosing to roll with what life brought her.
She loved fishing at the lake and feeling the sand between her toes on many trips to the beach. From Possum Kingdom Lake to Lake Granbury, Lorena enjoyed a lifetime of memories with her family; from water skiing and making homemade ice cream to cheering for HER team “The Dallas Cowboys”. Lorena enjoyed the laughter and fun in playing cards with her family and will surely be missed.
Lorena is survived by her husband Charles Hornberger, four children;
Kenneth Armstrong and wife Cathy of Granbury , Karen Russell of Granbury, Alan Hadley and wife Emilee of Granbury, and Diana Collier of North Richland Hills, Tx, eight Grandchildren and eight Great Grandchildren.
There will be a private gathering for the family to celebrate Lorena's life and a Heavenly Welcoming Home.
A Poem for Lorena:
You are not forgotten loved one
Nor will you ever be
As long as life and memory last
We will remember Thee
We miss you now, our hearts are sore
As time goes by, we miss you more
Your loving smile, your gentle face
No one can fill your vacant place
